I have been a psychologist for twenty years, worked in mental health and counselling for a few more.  I have had a special interest in depression and anxiety (such as panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, phobias, insomnia and generalized anxiety).  I have had extra training with David Barlow, who wrote Mastering Your Anxiety & Panic, and is a leader in cognitive approaches to anxiety, which have proven to be the most effective.  I have also pursued additional training in cognitive approaches to depression with David Burns, author of Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy, which you may have seen.

Over time, I have worked with many adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and with group programs for this issue and also was clinical supervisor at a program for treatment of relationship violence.

In addition to my PhD, I am a graduate of the Pacific Coast Family Therapy Training Institute, which I feel helped me to develop a bigger-picture approach to the couples I see.  I found I could not do couples counselling without also knowing sex therapy, so that's another area I have specialized in.

This may sound overly bookish, but I don't think I come across that way.  I believe I'm easy to talk to and approachable.  Therapy has to be a match between therapist and client & I always try to relate to their experiences but of course only you are the expert in your own situation.

I'm not interested in diagnosis unless the label proves useful to you in terms of strategies, planning and compassion for yourself.
