My practice consists of individual and couples counselling and psychological assessments.  The approaches I use are founded in both psychological and physiological theoretical bases.  A strong focus is on the mind-body interaction.

Counselling methods used are cognitive behavioural approaches with liberal use of YouTube vignettes, DVDs, book recommendations, and explanation of how the mind affects the body and vice versa.  These methods are known to be highly effective in helping us change our patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour.

To complement the cognitive behavioural techniques I also make use of biofeedback, a powerful method of stress reduction and healing.  Biofeedback is a form of alternative medicine that involves measuring quantifiable bodily functions such as blood pressure, heart rate, skin conductance, muscle tension, and respiratory rate; and conveying the information to the patient in real-time. Biofeedback raises one's awareness of and helps them develop conscious control of unconscious responses in their body.  By managing our physical responses we can gain control of our emotions and moods.

A psychological assessment consists of an in-depth interview that is followed by testing.  A report is then prepared based on the information gathered during the interview in combination with the results of testing and, if needed, information gained from other sources (i.e., medical packages, family members).

Most appointments are one hour to one and one-half hours in length.  Assessments can take up to one and one-half days.
